Drawing on the recent Bow Valley College resource, A Practical Guide to Teaching ESL Literacy, and post-TESL professional development courses, this workshop gives a research-based and practical overview of teaching ESL literacy. We will explore what it means to develop literacy and discuss integrating literacy skill development into meaning-focused instruction.

Emily Albertsen is an ESL literacy instructor at Bow Valley College. She was a writer of Learning for LIFE: An ESL Literacy Handbook and A Practical Guide to Teaching ESL Literacy. She has contributed to national projects including ESL for ALL and The ESL for ALL Support Kit.
