This session overviews the establishment of a Language Learning Centre, a self-access support centre for EAP students, and how it has evolved to become a student hub offering a range of activities. Survey data on student perceptions on a number of aspects of the Centre will also be discussed.


Joe Dobson

Joe Dobson is a Senior Lecturer at Thompson Rivers University and the facilitator of the Language Learning Centre. He is a past president of BC TEAL and has been teaching languages for 25 years.

Nguyen Hoang Le Giang

Nguyen Hoang Le Giang graduated from the Master of Education at Thompson Rivers University in 2019 complimenting his previous MATESOL from Australia and is beginning his PhD at Brock University in fall 2019.

Dian Henderson

Dian Henderson has been an educator for more than 30 years, working with students from elementary to teacher training. By exploring non-traditional approaches to education, Dian has discovered a means to enhance student voice and interest in writing and self-expression.

Jack Massalski

Thompson Rivers University
Jack Massalski has been involved in teaching ESL, curriculum development, and teacher training for over 20 years. He teaches EAP at Thompson Rivers University where he applies his passion for educational technology to developing online learning tools.
